A great marketing plan can mean the difference between success and failure for your small business. Knowing how to get started on one can be a challenge, but it’s incredibly important to your success. Where should you begin?
The first thing you have to do is define your business. You might have your elevator pitch to investors down, but how do you plan to demonstrate the value of your product or service to your customers? Once you’ve found your company’s voice, it’s time to determine your target market. Keeping your target market small makes your marketing more manageable and helps you stay in tune with your audience. Next, you’ll need to find out which companies are your biggest competition. Find out what they’re doing right, what they’re doing wrong, and what you can offer that they can’t. Finally, it’s time to write out your marketing plan. Be as specific as you can. Figure out which social media sites are going to work best with your business, for example. When it’s ready, unveil your plan to your team and tweak it according to their recommendations. If you’ve been thorough, you should have a great plan for getting your company off the ground!
