Burnout can be an entrepreneur’s worst enemy. It can put a damper on the energy, enthusiasm, and creativity required to build a successful business. Just like your muscles need a rest after a strenuous workout, your brain needs time to repair itself in between long sessions of intense focus. Without that rest, you risk burning out. If you want to rehab your brain to avoid burnout, you’re going to need a plan.
First, you’ll have to regulate your energy. Don’t work against you body’s natural rhythms every day; work with them. Take a walk when you feel tired, or take your lunch away from your desk when you’re feeling closed off. Things like this can help keep your energy levels up throughout the day. When it comes to weekly rest goals, try to take one real day off a week. It can do wonders for both your mood and your overall mental state.
You might think you need to work a little on a Saturday morning, or answer emails on Sunday night, but giving yourself one full say a week will send you back to work on Monday feeling much more focused and motivated. In the longterm, remind yourself to assess your quarterly goals once a month. This will help keep you on track, and by checking in once a month you’ll be able to track your progress without feeling stressed out about it every day!
