Five years ago, Facebook COO Sheryl Sandberg proclaimed that email was going to disappear from the marketing landscape. Fast forward to now, and many small business owners believe that that has come true. The facts, however, disagree.
70% of us check email while watching TV, 50% of us check email in bed, and 43% check email while talking to others on the phone. That doesn’t sound like something that’s in danger of disappearing anytime soon. Most importantly, 58% of people say that their preferred means of being contacted by a brand is through email. So it might be time to update your email marketing strategy. Your emails must be mobile-friendly so people on the go can easily consume your message. Less is more; be respectful of your audience’s time. Don’t inundate them with emails. Send periodic, well-considered, short, and helpful messages. Make it easy for your audience to set their own email options, including the times and frequency with which they’ll receive their messages. You can also add a lot of value by providing useful content through personalized email campaigns. This will make them far more likely to engage with your brand!
