“Everything in the future online is going to look like a multiplayer game.”
-Eric Schmidt, Executive Chairman, Google
Shopping cart abandonment. Ugh.
“Click, click, click… and… LEAVE?! What?! Why did you leave my cart? One more click and my gorgeous product would be on its way to your doorstep! Why. Why?!”
It’s not pretty.
But… what if you were to GAMIFY the checkout process?
Level 1: Congratulations, you’ve begun.
Level 2: You’ve just unlocked the ‘Savvy Shopper’ badge.
Level 3: One more step and you’re automatically entered into the lottery for a percentage off. Good luck!
Level 4: Congratulations! Your purchase is on its way to your doorstep, and you’ve unlocked the ‘Rock On’ badge and will receive discount coupons for future purchases.
This is just one example of how gamification could increase engagement in a (formerly boring) process in your business.
“What is gamification”, you ask?
It’s the process of turning something that isn’t a game, into a game*.
According to the Wall Street Journal**, it’s also one of the hottest marketing trends around.
Only… it isn’t a trend. It’s been around for ages! (Think: how many people said they voted in the recent election… just for the sticker?)
Author & Professor Kevin Werbach, Wharton School of Business, is an expert in this ‘new-yet-old’ concept called GAMIFICATION.
He joined us for a free, informational LIVE INTERVIEW to discuss what gamification *is*, how to think like a game designer, & how to apply it to your business.
Professor Werbach’s new book starts with the question: “Why can’t business be fun?”
His premise is that by making business processes compelling (i.e. FUN), we engage & retain customers more.
So… what if you could reverse-engineer what it is that makes games effective and use it in your own business?
Companies like Nike, American Express, Microsoft & Major League Baseball have used “game-thinking” to increase customer engagement & retention.
Think you can find ways to make your business more ‘fun’ too?
Watch Professor Werbach and Andrea Warner right here for a lively presentation on gamification for businesses. It’s a real eye-opener for you about how you could potentially interact with your customers.
