Email marketing is one of the most effective ways to promote your business and build credibility, but if you’re new to the task you may not be sure how to proceed. If you’re going to take on an email marketing campaign, you need to have a solid plan in place.
First, think about what you want to send. What sorts of messages would be most likely to help your business? Requests for referrals? Requesting customer reviews? Or maybe advertising a special promotion? Decide what the content of your emails will be so when you start sending, you know your purpose. Don’t overdo it. If people are responding, you’re on the right track. If they’re asking to be removed from your list, you should probably rethink your approach. You also need to keep a list, whether a spreadsheet or a Google doc, that lists all of your contacts. Your goal is to keep that list growing. Ask for customers’ email addresses whenever possible, but don’t overuse them. If you want to chase down a new lead, sometimes the more personal touch of a phone call works better. Great email marketing requires striking a tricky balance, but if you can find it it will pay off!
