Social media is going through constant changes, but in 2020, primarily due to the pandemic we are experiencing, these changes were much more dramatic. Pandemic has had a tremendous impact on interpersonal communication, our shopping habits and social media interactions capture these changes. Societal upheavals also put the use of social media to the forefront of discussions on various issues and platforms have become heavily used by activists. This year also saw an emergence of an important player, namely TikTok platform.
