When you start a small business, the issue of employee training can seem like a far-off prospect. You’re focused on attracting customers and developing your product or service, not on developing the skills of employees you may not even have yet. However, many startup owners come to regret the fact that they did not put a focus on creating a learning culture early on. How can you develop your staff without spending all of your resources on it in the early going?
Microlearning strategies are allowing small businesses to approach training in a brand new way. Audio/visual content, which can allow each employee to learn at their own pace, is very different from the usual employee training programs. The courses are short and specific, allowing your staff to begin to learn your business right away and to continue learning as they develop. You can also encourage your employees to learn in other, more unique ways. Ask them to post content to your company’s blog to showcase their expertise, for example. This will allow them to develop their brand ambassador skills as well as encourage them to learn more about their field! What other nontraditional ways can you think of to train your employees?
