Do you struggle to find enough time in the day to get all of your work done? Do you think maybe you just haven’t found the right time management techniques yet? That could be, but it may also be true that some of your beliefs about time management are actually sabotaging you.
Most people believe that there will be enough time in the week to get everything done if they can just manage their time properly, but that isn’t always true. Time management solutions aren’t a magic bullet to save you from too much work, and continuing to turn to them when you’re actually overloaded can make you feel guilty for not being able to get everything done. If there just isn’t enough time to finish everything, look at the work itself instead. Is all of it pressing? Keep in mind, too, that it’s okay to say no to people looking to pile more on your plate. Offer to get to it next week, or the week after. You’re not always expected to get everything done right away. Just because someone comes to you with a new task doesn’t mean you have to drop everything and get that done for them. Prioritize, find out what you can push back, and you’ll make yourself a lot saner.
