Everybody does it. Putting off those tasks you hate doing kills your productivity, but you just can’t help it. But what if there was a way to turn your procrastination habits around, and what if it didn’t have to be painful?
One way to get these tasks accomplished is to create a “Task Retreat” for yourself. This is a scheduled appointment just for you, in which you’ll work on a “must-do” task in an enjoyable environment that eliminates procrastination. By creating conditions tailored to yourself personally, you’ll offset the boring effects of an undesirable task by turning it into relaxation. You have to schedule time each week to do this and pick a good location. Whether it’s your favorite cafe in the late afternoon or a home office first thing in the morning, make sure you’re comfortable and have plenty of room. Wear your most comfortable clothes and bring your favorite beverage or snack – this is your time each week, and you should treat yourself for it. Finally, you’ll need a playlist or favorite album to get yourself in the working mood. By setting this time aside each week, you’ll have a relaxing and productive period to look forward to in which you can get even the most mind-numbing tasks done.
